What can I say in response to "Can you do me a favor?"

What can I say in response to "Can you do me a favor?"
I want to say "Tell me what exactly you are asking me for. What favor do you need me to do?"
But this answer it way too long!
I don't get it why people ask "Can you do me a favor" before they tell what favor it is. Nobody's going to say yes before the favor is clearly told.
So, I listed some short answers down below but I don't know if they are correct.
1. Go ahead!
2. Ask!
3. Shoot!
4. What?

I think "What is it?" or "What kind of favor?" is better than just "what?" If you respond simply with "what?" the person might just repeat the original question, thinking you hadn't heard him.
