'What brings / brought you here?'

Does this expression 'What brings you here?' imply some rudeness in some certain situation?

I feel like the expression can be rude to someone, meaning 'You do not belong to this place, so get out of here' or is it totally the same as 'What brought you here?'

Or they can be used differently in some situations?

What do you native English speakers think? Thank you so much as usual in advance.
