What being important

Which of the following is correct?

1. What is important is patience.
2. What being important is patience.

I feel that (2) is better but I don't know exactly why.

Simon, The first one is a better expression. It'd be easier to understand when it is rephrased as follows. What is important is patience.

The first one is a better expression.
It'd be easier to understand when it is rephrased as follows.

What is important is patience.
= The thing which is important is patience.

The meaning is almost exactly the same. The only difference between the two is the respective terms used for each.

"What is important" is classified as a noun clause,

2. I am being silly.

What is the word type of "being" in (2)?

Yes, both are correct. Here is the difference:

When you say "I am silly", you are stating that you are usually this way.

When you say "I am being silly", you are saying that at a certain moment or situation you are acting like a silly person, but it doesn't means that you think you ARE silly.

He is selfish - it's a statement. This is what you think about him.
