Task 2: Nowadays, more and more people decide to have children later in their life. What are the reasons? What are the effects on society and family life?

These days, the postponement of parenthood has become a common trend in many countries. There are some crucial reasons for this tendency, and it could have some impacts on family life as well as society.

In my opinion, late motherhood has been driven by some main reasons. Firstly, women have more time for mental rewards thanks to late motherhood. For instance, it is unsurprising that more women are choosing to travel solo and setting on backpacking adventures to set them free and experience the world for themselves before embarking on years of motherhood. Secondly, women would prefer to give priority to their careers rather than take parental roles. It is estimated that women who postpone childbearing tend to have higher-level occupations than those who have children earlier in life, with more sustained career progress and lower-wage loss due to motherhood. Therefore, many women decide to delay in motherhood in order to provide sustainable income for their children.

However, the trend of older first-time parents has posed some negative effects for both family life and society. The first influence is that delaying parenthood creates a significant age gap between two generations. For example, it has been observed that the lack of sympathy and communication between parents and their children often occurs in late parent hood family. Furthermore, any pregnancy after age 40 is considered high risk that threatens the health or life of the mother or her fetus. It includes diabetes, high blood pressure and a greater chance of having a less physically healthy child.

In conclusion, there are several reasons why women are waiting to have children. As childbearing past age 40 becomes more common, it is important to be informed about the effects involved in having children later in life.
