what are these grammar parts?

Hi,

Please tell me what the underlined parts are.

1. I saw him cross the road.

2. They will help us do better.

3. I saw them running away.

I think the second underlined one is the bare infinitive. Does a to-infinite assume different grammatical funtions?

#1 and #2 are bare infinitives; they are object complements (of the direct objects him and us respectively). #3 is the -ing participle construction serving the same function (object complement of them ). Yes, infinitives can serve various functions: object ( I want to go ), subject ( To dance well is my dream ).
