"What are these cartoons called" OR "What is this cartoon called"

Please consider this scenario: I walk into a room where a cartoon show is being aired. I want to know the name of the show. How should I ask? Here are two examples, I have come up with:

1. What are these cartoons called?

And

2. What is this cartoon called?

Which is correct and/or better of the two?
