What are the meanings of those two expressions?

Hi teachers, here are two questions.

1. I can't believe I made it into San Francisco, at long last! This morning, I went to the airport to catch my 10 a.m. flight.
In this sentence, what does this expression mean here and what does "it" here refer to ?

2. When the plane landed, I went out to the curb to catch a taxi to my hotel. I only had carry-on bags so I didn't need to wait in baggage claim. I was out of the airport and off on my vacation.
What is the meaning of " off on my vacation" ?

thanks in advance.

Anonymous was correct.

I think the problem is that you are thinking too literally. Just think of "made it to..." or "made it into" as an idiomatic expression
