What are the meanings of "extreme time" and "extreme position"?

Reading dictionary, I saw the explanation of "very is used with nouns in order to specify an extreme position or extreme point in time."
I pored over the word "extreme" to find the meaning of "extreme position" and "extreme point" but I couldn't find any proper explanation which is correspond to "extreme positon" and "extreme point"
