What are the functions of articles?
1) There was no reply, but in a moment Miss Glaser began to play the opening bars of one of Schumann’s songs.
"a" here just a part of set expression,or it has numerical function?
Why ther's no article before "Schumann’s songs"?

' in a moment ' is a fixed expression. 'the' is not used before possessives (Mark's car , not the Marks's car ). 'an' has basically the function of one in your last example.
