What are the difference between the following three phrases?

I'm so confused when using three phrases. Any one can tell me difference between them so that I can use them in right contexts.


1- suffer from

New York suffers from higher levels of crime, congestion.

2- be prone to:

Some plants are very prone to disease

3- be subject to

Smokers are more subject to heart attacks than non-smokers
