What are the definition of word "by"?

Hi there?

How about the sentence below?

"I'm going to finish my report by next Tuesday?"

I wander if the term of date includes "Next Tuesday".

Please, answer me!

Top answer

It is before or on Tuesday and certainly not after it. The use of 'by' to refer to time is for an approximate reference.
