What are other academic words/phrases that can replace "increase"?

I'm looking for a new more academic replacement for "increase". Words like "go up, raise, boost, grow up, rocket, etc." are highly traditionally used.

There are lots of synonyms for 'increase' but it kinda depends on the context. Augment and enhance are nice academic-sounding ones, and intensify would be appropriate in some cases.
