English has many words that are formed with prefixes, root words and suffixes.

It is sometimes helpful to learn word patterns. A dictionary with suffix and prefix entries can useful in understanding the etymology, or word history. There is an English etymology dictionary:

When I have this kind of problem, I write the words down in columns as I learn them.

.................. ABLE ...................... IBLE ..................

............. --- able .............. - - - ible ..........
............. --- able .............. - - - ible ..........
............. --- able ..............
