What am I doing wrongly?

By comparing these two, "What am I doing wrongly?" and "what am I did wrongly", I'm wondering which is the best and most suitable way to express this: What did I do to suggest that I'm doing the XXX in the wrong way?(Deep down, I kind of believe that these two questions are weak in construction. Reason: I don't even know if it should be "What am I doing wrong" that is correct...Emotion: thinking)

Please help me and thanks.Emotion: smile

"What am I doing wrongly?" is correct.

You can say: What am I doing wrongly? but it is more common to say: What am I doing wrong? What am I did is ungrammatical. Wrongly must be used if it modifies a word after it: It was wrongly spelled.

It looks grammatical correct but actually sounds awkward from the fluency point of view. Most native would just say " what am I doing wrong? "Wrong" is used as and adverb here.

Don't get "incorrectly" and "wrong

dimsumexpressYou can say "her name is incorrectly spelled", or " spelled wrong".
Googling for "wrongly spelled" gives about 112,000 hits, so quite a few people say, or write, that too.

Hi CB,

I didn't say it was grammatically wrong but it did sound like a finger nail running down on a chalkbo

dimsumexpressIt seemed to me that the folks who favor " something being wrongly spelled " were those influenced by BrE. In fact, there was one entry in which a British teacher said "spelled wrong" is wrong", and spelled wrongly " is corrrect. Go figure!
I am used to nearly anything being considered correct or incorrect by native speakers of English from vario
