What adverb should be used

If I insert a USB device into the USB port but the computer does not recognize the device, what adverb should I use in the following sentence:
"I connected the device to the PC physically but couldn't connect it ________ to the PC".

My thinking was along the lines that the device "connects" not so much to the port as to the machine as a whole.

Hmm, the first thing I wrote was, "I agree." Where did it go? Anyway,

I think "functionally" does a better job of "filling the blank.
