There's no difference. Both are friendly responses:

- Hi, how's it going?

- I'm good, what about you?

- I'm good, how about you?

- Yeah, I'm well thanks

CONVERSATION ONE
A: I have an umbrella, what about you? B: I have an umbrella,too.
and

Yes, though you need a period instead of a comma.

My favorite movie is Casablanca. What/How about you? == What's your favorite movie?
I like dark chocolate more than milk chocolate. What/How about you? = Which type of chocolate do you prefer?

The first, ever so slightly, works better: I have an umbrella, what about you?

It's one of those sentences that grammarians can't explain. The 'what' doesn't really refer back to the umbrella, but it sounds as though it should
