What a shame!

That incident ruined our trip. Since then, we have never been anywhere for vacation again. What a shame!

Is it equal to reword the above as the following? If not, how would you word it? Thanks.

That incident spoiled our trip. Since then, we have never been anywhere spending our vacation again. What a pity/waste!

In your original, I would say "We have never been anywhere for vacation since" or "Since then, we haven't gone anywhere for vacation." Your rewrite is unnatural. You go someone place for vacation or on vacation, and you can "spend your vacation" somewhere, but not "we went somewhere spending our vacation."

What a pity!

Thanks, GG, for your helpful reply.

As a minor aside, are there any differences between on vacation and for vacation?

If you go somewhere "for" vacation, it was your destination. If you went there "on" vacation, it may have been one of the stops you made on your trip.

(Note that British usage for vacation/holiday is different - I speak American.)
