1) Would the present perfect continuous be your choice here as well?

2) Is "talking about it" natural here to mean they've been considering it?

anonymous 1) Would the present perfect continuous be your choice here as well? It is not unusual to hear that sort of thing in casual speech, but "we'd been talking" is the proper way. Still, if you had been talking, then you also have been, I guess.

It is not unusual to hear that sort of thing in casual speech, but "we'd been talking" is the proper way. Still, if you had been talking, then you also have been, I guess. I would have said "we'd been", myself.
