Hello everyone! I am writing a thesis now and something is confusing me. I have always written W of "Western blot" in capital letters even if it is in the middle of a sentence because I thought this is what I see the most. Anyway, some colleagues corrected it to "western" with no capitals. I tried to search in google but everyone says contradictory things. What are your ideas? Thanks!

If you are talking about the Euro-American culture, then capitalize. But what is 'Western blot'?

Strictly speaking "western blot" (and also "northern blot") shouldn't start with a capital letter. Southern blotting is the only one that should be capitalised as it was named after Ed Southern (who never actually called it Southern blotting, but that's another story) - the other techniques were just named in reference to the original technique (a typical science 'joke'!).
