Western and Eastern culture is/are

Hi everyone, i was wondering if you could help me with these sentences:

Western and Eastern culture is/are so different.

British and American humor is/are so different.

Which is the correct verb, is or are? I think it's "are" but the fact that the two adjectives are modifying the same uncountable noun has got me doubting myself.

Thanks for your help guys!
