West Lobby/security badges/cleared
Hi
Three guys went to meet the president in the White House. First they had gone through the metal detector and security process at the northeast gate entrance. After that they started to walk toward the West Lobby, the security badges issued to the three men bounced against their chests. They arrived at the small West Lobby and were cleared.
Is the "lobby" in this case something like a "hall"?
Do you know what kind of security badges were issued to them? Maybe they received some ID's or maybe the Secret Service Agents gave them same badges???
I cannot figure out what "cleared" means in this context?

Do you think that "lobby" could also mean a "corridor"? Or maybe not in this case?
So probably it means they were given some identification cards by the Secret Service Agents. And pinned them to their chests.
