We're leaving

I came across the following scene in a comic; When a pirate completed their work and depart from a captured vessel, he said "We're leaving. You're free to go now!" to the hostages. So considering the context, the usage of this progressive continuous in "We're leaving" is used to indicate that something will happen in the very near future(in this case, their departure). Am I correct?
