"IF" has been omitted, which is o.k. with this word order. "If I told her what I really thought, she would never speak to me agai

I don't think that 'If I were to tell her...' and 'If I told her...' are the same thing.

I would interpret the original as 'If it was for me to tell her...'.

It may be of no importance, but just in case it is...
