Went v. gone

A quote from a friend:

"I haven't went to the bathroom all day."

I said, Wrong! It's "gone," not "went."

Hi,

I say you're right.

I'd say your friend has bigger problems than the grammar error and should talk to a doctor.

"Gone" is the past participle used in the perfect tense. In other words, it must be accompanied by has, have, or had. "Went" is simple past and never takes a helping verb such as has, have or had.

Certainly it would be wrong to use 'went'.

As people have said, 'gone' is the past participle.

I'd be more likely here to say 'I haven't been to the bathroom all day'.
