Went dead

Is this sentence correct:


"We were speaking earlier, but unexpectedly the call went dead."


Note: By 'the call went dead', I mean the line was disconnected.

Say: "... the line went dead" or "... the call dropped out"

As already mentioned, it's the line that goes dead, not the call.

I, too, would say, "the line went dead".
