Can I say,

She went to her friend's birthday / birthday party.

Yeah sure. You say it like : She went to her friend's birthday party.

Remember to make sure that there is the (') sign. If you write friends without the (') sign, then it'll just mean the plural form of friend.



It sounds weird if you say : She went to her friend birthday party.

I agree with you, Philip.

Yet my kids always used to say, and in fact still do say, things like I went to Fred's birthday last Saturday.

They never say I observed Fred's birthday last Saturday.
