Welll-meaning

Hi
"Many well-meaning intervention studies have been conducted, yet only a few provide compelling information through the use of large sample sizes and methodological rigor. "

Here well-meaning means delivered with good intentions?Or does it have any specialized meaning?Does it imply unsuccessfulness?

" "Well-meaning" is a pejorative. It implies in this case that the studies were failures from "various" points of view -- methods, conclusions, etc. The author applies "well-meaning" to all of them, and then admits that "a few" were well-conceived and well-executed.
