Well Written or Well-Written?

In this instance, should it be well written or well-written? I've tried looking the rules up online, and it's just confused me.

Thanks in advance!

It is, like Dickens’ other novels, not only well-written, but contains a sophisticated plot and characterisation.

Like most compound adjectives, use it with a hyphen before the noun and no hyphen after. It's a well-written book. The book was well written.
