Well, that and a computer - Is this vaild?

Hi,

Please see below.

This book represents blah blah blah~. All you need to provide is an eagerness to learn.

Well, that and a computer.

I guess there is no subject or verb in the last sentence. What is the sentence trying to say?

Thanks.

Hi, I would have written the second and third sentences together like this: All you need to provide is an eagerness to learn and a computer. You are right, there is no subject or verb in the last sentence. It is written as a person would say it in conversation.

  • It is ok to use that construction in informal writing, but an editor might change it to: All you need to provide is an eagerness to learn--well, that and a computer.
  • to show the connection between the two sentences.
