Well-mannered

What is the difference between "well-mannered people" and "polite people"?

Which is better?

They have essentially the same meaning. Both are fine. PERHAPS I would tend to use 'well-mannered' for a permanent quality and 'polite' for particular instances.

They both mean the same, but as far as I'm concerned, the latter is used more often.
