well known

Could you tell me if the sentence#1 below is ok in terms of its position of "well"?

#1 He is a director whose works are known well throughout the world.

I think the normal position of "well" when it comes to using it with "known", it should come before known, so #1 should be #2

#2 He is a director whose works are known well throughout the world.

But, #1 is acceptable or correct??

Thanks a lot!

#1 is OK.
(#2 is identical.)

Thank you very much for your reply.

I'd like to make sure that #2 is also ok?

I've looked for the meaning of "identical", then knew that
identical: similar in every detail; exactly alike

Thank you!

#1 and #2 are the same words. Did you mean to make #2 different?

Thanks a lot for pointing out that #1&2 are the same!

I ment "well known" and "known well"...

Thank you!

Just an aside for what it's worth.

Google hits.

well known 60,500,000
known well 748,000

well known is used more than 60 times more often than known well.
