Well done

I often heard peaple say the phrase, "Well done!", but I have no idea what is its word class. That is to say, does it come from "You're well done (adjective)" or "You have well done (perfect form)"?

Top answer

It is idiomatic, and said when someone has done a very good job. The closest sentence is: You have done it well, indeed.

I see. By the way, I have additional question about the position of the adverb, 'well'. If you say "You have well done it" instead of "You have done it well", does it sound awkward?

It sounds wrong. It is wrong.
