Vocabulary

welcome wagon

Hello there,

I have another question and am wondering someone might give some help.

In a sentence below, what do the words "welcome wagon" mean?

Does that mean some kind of 'ceremony' or ' a group of people who welcome the others'?

Unlike the definitions on the dictionary, it doesn't look being related to the organization of the same name or the real wagon.--this is my guess.

Thanks for your help in advance!

"Welcome Wagons" were first used in the days of the American Pioneers to make subsequent American Settlers feel a sense of security and comfort meeting their neighbors for the sake of building community and forming solidarity.

It was a peaceful way of meeting your new neighbor, commonly mile's away, as well as letting them know who you were.
