Weight

"I'll put the item on the weight scale and write down its weight"

Hi, I always find myself saying that long phrase. Is there a particular verb that says the whole thing? Or a shorter phrase?

And is it called, "Weight Scale" for determining heavy carton box weight?

Thank you

You can just say "I'll measure the weight of the item." Way less wordy.

Or simply "I'll weigh the item".

No. The term is weighing scales or, just scales. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weighing_scale

GPY I wonder whether it could be a regional thing ...
Probably. It is unfamiliar in England and the rest of the UK.
