If class participation counts for ten percent of the final grade, can I use the verb "weigh": "Class participation weighs 10 marks in the final grade"? Thanks. What are other forms of expression for the idea?

Weighs sounds odd here. Weighting has to do with assigning unequal value to certain points/areas. The usual phrase is is worth : Class participation is worth 10 marks in the final grade.

You could also use "counts for", e.g. "Class participation counts for 5% of your final grade."
