Well...it depends... how many people are attending your wedding....in India, you pretty much invite every1 you and your family know....so an average wedding will have about 600-800 people and the number goes up to more than 3000 in big weddings...in such cases people do mail out invites through email...I had about 1500 guests at my wedding....

One doesn't meet all of one's friends and colleagues to invite them personally. And when it comes to the work place, I don't think there is a need to hand out invitation cards individually. And no matter what the mode of communication is, the heart to invite "all" of the friends and colleagues is what matters in the place "where we live".

Mister MicawberAgain, as I mentioned above, this may work quite well in India but may well be considered too euphuistic in other cultures.
Boy, that's a word I don't hear very often.
As for e-vites. Except for a casual gathering, such as a potluck occasion or a simple dinner with close friends, I would find it in

I know its been some time since you wrote this
I do agree with your thought, but "insulting" is the last thing you should feel when you receive an 'e-vite'. Yes it may be cutting down cost, but an email can be time saving and can reach the invited, without doubt.
It is also impossible to personally invite friends who stay far away.
