We'd

An emergency situation has happened. So I say:

We better call Frank! Or

We'd better call Frank!

What's the difference between the two and why isn't when I hear other ppl say it the 'd is barely heard. Is there a big difference if I use one or the other?

Thanks!

Hi,
We better call Frank. -- Not grammatical; very informal.

We'd better call Frank. -- Correct. We'd is a contraction of we had. That 'd might be hardly heard, but it is there.

It may be elided in sloppy English, though.
