I think you use "will" to refer to future events planned at the time of speaking, whereas you use the present continuous to refer to future events which you've planned in thought AND action. " means you've thought about it, put it in your diary and sent out invites etc. Hope that makes sense.

I was doing a self-quiz on the internet and i was a bit confused on this correct answer.
Q. ________ a party here next Saturday.

2. We will have
3. We're having.
I picked 2. (We will have). Because the party won't start until next saturday, so it' future perfect to me.
