Hi
Are the underlined parts natural English?
We heard about his death at 3 in the morning, and were luckily able to get the 5 am-flight. By 8, we were with the family.

Thanks,

PS: What about a 5 am-flight? Is it also correct?
Both "catch" and "get" are fine. I wouldn't hyphenate "5 am flight". "the 5 am flight" and "a 5 am flight" are both possible.

"the 5 am flight" and "a 5 am flight" are both possible. If you use "the", it has a weakish nuance that people know, or might be expected to know, that there is a flight at 5 am.

It's better.
