We tried ( to contact/ contacting ) Mr. Crowley....

Please teachers ler me know which of the following swntences sounds more natural.


1. We tried to contact Mr.Crowley and finally received a reply from him yesterday.


2. We tried contacting Mr.Crowley and finally received a reply from him yesterday.

Those are both possible, but by preference I think I would use (1). However, consider whether you actually mean "We managed to contact Mr Crowley". " and the name.

Those are both possible, but by preference I think I would use (1). However, consider whether you actually mean "We managed to contact Mr Crowley".

There should be a space between "Mr." and the name. (I am an advocate of dropping the full stop. I would write "Mr Crowley".)
