We read sitting all the evening.

We read sitting all the evening.

Question:
What does "sitting" function here? Is it emphasizing "we were sitting while we were reading"?

Thanks in advance,

The sentence is not a natural one. Where did you come by it? Was it written by a native speaker?

Well, it came from a non-English English teaching book. The author, not a native, is actually trying to explain the grammar and meaning of "We sat reading all the evening" by comparing it to the OP, which I find strange too. Could it be a mistake? (but the author does explain that "read sitting" means something, something I can't understand.)
