Can any one tell me what's wrong with 2 ?? thanks in advance - Sharad.

but, is there something grammatically wrong with 2?

Shouldn't it be "may" instead of might in 2 ?? - We decided to emphasize the results we may attain

I thought might is needed when you use 'that'.

Both are correct, but might expresses something that is less likely to happen.
