CalifJimI don't see the logic of quoting a passage from a published work and then asking if it can be used.
If you have read the book, you may have noticed that the book is written in an informal style, a speech between someone and their coach.

I didn't have that advantage. In any case there was nothing in the quoted passage that was particularly informal. In fact, it seemed quite formal, if that's what you're concerned about.
