'We haven't been playing for weeks'

In Grammar in Use book,

1. We haven't played for weeks

2. We haven't been playing for weeks

The answer was 'We haven't played for weeks'

Could anyone explain me why 'We haven't been playing for weeks' is wrong?

We haven't been playing for weeks is not wrong as an isolated sentence. It's impossible to say why your book said it was incorrect without knowing what lesson you were learning and what conditions were placed on your choices.
