Please look at this sentence.

We have spent so much time together that we have picked up each other's mannerisms.

Does "picked up" mean that we have got used to each other's mannerisms or we have developed the same mannerisms.

But does it actually happen in real life?

For example, if someone has an irritating mannerism of sweeping her hair back with her hand or blinking eyes again and again, we can only get used to it after spending some time with that person.

Yes. People quite often pick up mannerisms from others. They are not necessarily irritating mannerisms.
