We don't have much left???

Please look at this question.

(Q) Applications for Editorial opened last month and we do not have ____ left.
(a) much (b) few (c) many (d) some

The correct answer is (a) much. I wanted to choose "any" but there was no "any".
That's why I chose (c) many because I think the company now does not have any editorial position left.
I think we can count the number of job positions, and even those of vacancies. Why is it "(a) much"?

Thank you for your answer in advance.

There was no a word "position" in the question. I just think since they have had applications from candidates last month, there should be no vacancy. I will check once again which answer the workbook containing that question says is correct.

Perhaps, does the sentence "we don't have much left" means "we don't have much time left"?
