We didn't the lesson but the lesson itself... (?)

I'm looking for a verb American/English people use to denote that a lesson planned has not 'come into existence' (eg. due to some unspecified circumstances).

Hey mom, the our last lesson "...." I'm so thrilled!

All found in a dictionary was some suggestions like to take place or to be held, though I know there must be something more precise.

Thanks for any help.
