"we carry umbrellas to minimize our getting wet when it rains"

is there a better replacement for 'carry'?

Oh and is it awkward to have that 'our' in there?

"We carry umbrellas to avoid getting wet when it rains."

"We carry umbrellas so we don't get wet when it rains."
