We can catch up a bit

1: It's been at least a few weeks since we've seen each other.
2: Yeah, I guess it has. Wow! Time flies, doesn't it?
1: Yeah. Hey! Why don't we do lunch one day next week?
2: Sure! We can catch up a bit.

- Instead of "time flies", could I say "Time goes by so fast"? and what does "We can catch up a bit" mean?

Thanks very much to Teachers,

Yes, fly indicates rapid movement. "catch up" = discuss all the things that we haven't talked about since we last saw each other. Also, I need to catch up on my ironing, or I won't have any clothes left to wear.
