"We are reading on our own "

We are reading on our own.

I am trying to say that we are reading independent of each other. i.e. We are each reading our own books. Is this the natural way to express this idea?

Thank you

We are reading on our own. I see three possibilities: a) we are reading unassisted. b) we are reading separately.
